Guilford's location on Connecticut's shoreline makes it a great town for active people of all ages. Recreational facilities include two town beaches, a town marina, playing fields, public golf and tennis courts, a roller sports complex, playgrounds and many miles of walking trails.

Jacobs Beach

Sandy Beach on Long Island Sound. Facilities include: Playscape, boat racks, picnic area, grills, pavilion, bathrooms. Lifeguard on duty Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 9 am - 5 pm.

Lake Quonnipaug

Facilities include: Roped off swimming area, sandy beach, picnic area and fishing. Lifeguard on duty Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day 9 am - 7 pm. Beach pass required.

Trails

The Guilford Conservation Commission manages an extensive system of marked trails for hikers, non-motorized bikers and equestrians. The Westwoods Trails Committee, a division of the Guilford Land Conservation Trust, maintains the system. Maps are available for all areas in Town Hall and at Bishop's Orchards, Page Hardware, Guilford Police Station, Guilford Free Library, Nathanael B. Greene Community Center or by writing to the Guilford Land Conservation Trust, PO Box 200, Guilford CT 06437. For additional information, call (203) 453-2486.

Bluff Head
A prominent natural feature of the North Guilford landscape containing the Mattabesett Trail which is part of the Connecticut Forest and Park Association's 500 miles of Blue-Blazed Trails. The trail is accessed from a dirt road turnoff just north of Great Hill Road on Route 77. An encampment 600 feet above sea level offers the best views of Faulkner's Island.

Horse Trails
Trail Riders of the Shoreline is a local riding organization dedicated to the establishment and preservation of a riding system in the Shoreline area. For information, call Terry Holland-Buckly, (203) 457-0527.

Nut Plains Woods
Accessed from Cindy Lane, this is a 48 acre wooded gem owned by the Guilford Land Conservation Trust.

Timberlands
600 acres of forest stretching from the Guilford Lakes area north to Route 80. The trail system covers only the southern section accessed from parking areas on the east side of Maupas Road or from the west side on Lakeside Drive.

Westwoods
40 miles of trails in southwestern Guilford blazed through a varied forest of marshlands, fish and salt water, covering over 1,000 acres. Entrances at Peddlers Road and Route 146, Sam Hill and others. State of Connecticut has some sections closed for safety reasons. Check at Town Hall.
