Chief of Police, Thomas A. Terribile On behalf of the Guilford Police Department, I would like to welcome you to our town. The Town of Guilford was founded in 1639 and has a land mass of 47.5 square miles.

To our South is Long Island Sound and to our North is the Town of Durham. To our East is located the Town of Madison, and to our West is the Town of Branford. The population for the Town of Guilford is approximately 22,000 people.

The Emergency number for Fire, Police or Medical is 911. The routine telephone number for the Police Department is 203-453-8061.

The Police Department is located at 400 Church Street or Route 77. The Police Department has an authorized strength of thirty-eight sworn officers, three civilian dispatchers, two full-time animal control officers, and three clerical personnel. The police department is broken down into a Field Services Division, and a Support Services Unit. The Field Services Division is responsible for the Patrol Unit, Dispatchers, the Detective Unit, the School Resource Officer at the Senior High School, and two DARE Officers that are assigned to the Adams Middle School and the Baldwin Middle School. The Support Services Division is responsible for the Training Unit, Animal Control Officers, Crime Prevention, and the Records Unit.

The Police Department offers a full range of services to our community and some are as follows:

  • House checks while you are away on vacation
     
  • Crime Prevention checks for your home or business
     
  • Fingerprinting for permits or applications
     
  • Child car seat installations
     
  • Civilian Police Academy classes usually held in the winter months
     

The Montesano Community Room is available to town residents, clubs and/or businesses. The Montesano Community Room can seat up to 32 people. The room is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The Town of Guilford has two Town Ordinances that you should be aware of . The first ordinance requires homeowners or business owners to clearly show your street address on your building so that emergency services can find your home or business easily. The second town ordinance restricts on-street parking from December 1st to April 1st during the hours of 1:00 A.M. to 7:00 A.M. No vehicles can be parked during this period whether or not it is going to snow; or whenever show plowing is underway.
